Kyoto! Gion Matsuri Festival

Gion Matsuri is the biggest festival of the year in Kyoto. It is incredible that we are here in Kyoto this week during the height of the festival! I love seeing the contrast of the locals walking around in regular clothes and others in kimonos.

They walk all over the city dressed in kimonos, sometimes side-by-side with friends in mini-skirts and high heels!

Today we were able to stop in a department store when it opened. We have been wanting to do this, as we had heard that all of the clerks line up to bow and greet you as you enter. There were even men outside, directing us as we entered, sort of like ushers!

We went to one of the 3 national museums in Osaka. We were able to hear 2 lectures from specialists at the museum.

Location:Kyoto, Japan
